Eden style machine
The Details
We worked with designer-maker Kyle Bean to realise his design for this fruit machine inspired “style machine”. The film was used as promotional material for the Eden shopping center’s rebrand campaign.
The final film is a composite of live effects, stop-frame elements, and simple post-production edits. We really like the resulting distinctive style.

HOW WE DID IT
Kyle Bean is best known for his beautiful paper-craft models and imagery. However, it would not have been practical to construct this model in paper or card. Therefore, we worked from Kyle’s designs to produce the exterior chassis in birch ply. We also designed the internal chassis and mechanism in CAD, then CNC routed everything in-house and gave it all a paper-like finish.
We were able to shoot using a mixture of stop-frame and editing processes to achieve all the required visual effects. Shooting the spinning reel motion in stop-frame would have taken all day, and motorising the reels individually would have been over-engineering. Instead, all the reels spun together with a ramped motion from Dragon Frame driving a stepper motor and utilising the go motion blur feature. The fixed shot was then split in post-production and edited/composited together.
