HOW WE DID IT
The ‘New’ sign started off with the laser cutting of the letters which we then built the sides around. Accuracy was paramount at this stage as any gaps would be very obvious once the lights were on. The red triangle block was machined out and hand-finished to fit between the gaps in the letters, with all the components locating onto a routed backing piece. The backing not only helped us line up and join all the pieces but gave us a place to mount hanging points. To light the ‘New’ sign we used high-frequency LEDs to ensure they did not flicker.
The signs needed to be lowered into the shot, which created a problem of how we would run power to the lights without any unsightly wires. Our solution was to wire the lights through the hanging points and up the hanging rods to a 12v power supply.
